Automated Paintball Sentry
[7 Jul 2008 | No Comment | 40 views]

Remember that scene in Aliens 2 when the space marines used several automated sentry turrets temporarily hold off a horde of alien xenomorphs?  Well, if this youtube video is any indication this kid has created a near perfect replica using a computer controlled painball gun.  Its accuracy is uncanny, even several attempts to fool the turret with another moving object only resulted in a few second head start. Video after the jump. Read the full story »

Help save the Arecibo Radio Telescope
[5 Jul 2008 | No Comment | 42 views]

The good folks over at SETI are asking for people to write their congressmen and women and urge them to support two potential funding bills (Senate Bill S. 2862 & House Resolution H.R. 3737).  If these two funding bills are not passed the Arecibo will not have the resources it need to continue operations.

Besides gathering vast amounts of data for the SETI program, it also assists scientists in monitoring other atmospheric, planetary, astronomic conditions.  It also used for determining the trajectory of potential near earth asteroids.  According to SETI if the telescope were to shut down, it would not be until 2020 until we would have a new telescope that could offer the same performance level.

It seems like it is all to often these days that we learn of potential cut backs in our nations science programs.  Take a few moments to use the simple support letter generator that SETI has provided and write or email your congressman or woman.

Zombie Defense Kit
[25 Oct 2007 | No Comment | 45 views]

Zombie Defense KitI get a kick out of zombies. I like shooting them in video games, watching them in movies and reading weird theories about zombie invasions. When I stumbled upon this super cool zombie defense kit, I had to share it. The idea is simple, put together a handful of items that you think will help you survive a zombie attack. Some of the other ones I seen (yes, there are other ones), usually just involve a shotgun and a handful of shells.

However, the guy who made this went the distance. Including shotgun, hacking weapon and a built in shield. Plus a handy guide, in case of zombie emergency. Yes, I know most of the stuff he used is fake or spent, but you gotta give him points for creativity and craftsmanship and awesomeness.

Besides, it not like we actually have to worry about a zombie outbreak… right?
