Fish with a Transparent Head
No, its not something they fished out of some radioactive sludge somewhere, it is actually interesting solution to the problem of keeping things from sneaking up on you. The Macropinna microstoma or “barreleyes” as it is more commonly known has a transparent head and elongated eyes. Its transparent head allows the eyes, which the fish can rotate, to see above and to the sides.
What is even more interesting is that because the eyes of the fish are located inside the transparent head it allows the fish to get close to and eat jellyfish, a dangerous and potentially painful prey. The head of the fish acts as a shield for the eyes, allowing it to feed on the harmful jellyfish. Be sure to check out the video of the fish on youtube.
