It Came From Planet X

Planet XAlright, I admit it, the chances of meeting a creature from a Planet X is slim to none.  However, the possibility of there being an actual Planet X, a planet that we have yet to find in our solar system is very real.  The search for the Planet X started as early as the mid 19th century but reached its height at the start of the 20th.  The Planet X hypotheses was proposed by Pervcival Lowell, he pointed to what he thought were unusual discrepancies in the orbits of some of the distant gas giants in our solar system.  These discrepancies he thought could only have been caused by another large planetary body passing by.

While the discovery of Pluto seem to support Lowell’s theory, Pluto was later categorized as too small to cause such a gravitational disturbance.  As we well know, it was not too long ago that Pluto was stripped of its planet status.  The Planet X hyposistes was delt another blow when the Voyager 2 spacecraft returned data that suggested the initial estimations of Neptune was incorrect which accounted for the previously recored orbital irregularities.

The scientific community has for the most part discounted the possibly of their being a Planet X, however a new discovery has added some weight to the old idea.  Recent studies of the Kupiter belt point to possible existence of a massive object.  Some of the objects in the Kupiter belt have radically different orbital patterns. While information is still sparse at the moment this is the best new evidence that a Planet X exists.

“Those could be signs of perturbation from a massive distant object,” says Robert Jedicke, a solar system scientist at the University of Hawaii.

Recently a new network of four telescopes, equipped with powerful digital camers started scanning the skies for hazardous objects, while the goal of the project is not to find Planet X it is quite capable of detecting objects in the outer solar system.
