Remote Island Living
Pondering what it would be like to live on a island in middle of nowhere? The approximately 270 inhabitants of Tristan da Cunha don’t see to mind living on the most remote island in the world. There are a handful of other extremely remote locations on earth but they are uninhabited. If you are shooting for as much space between you and another human being as possible, NASA has some options for you.
Due to their tiny size the the volcanic island is often unable to be displayed on maps. Tristan da Cunha has some historic significance as well. When the British exiled Napoleon to St. Helena they also annexed the nearest island chain to St. Helena. This chain happened to be Tristan da Cunha. The British wanted to make absolutely sure that the French could not attempt a rescue. Tristan da Cunha is 2430 km from St. Helena.
Despite is extremely remote location Tristan da Cunha is not an inhospitable place, sub-tropical climate that varies little during the course of a year. Only a small portion of the island is easily habitable, with the rest being quite mountainous.
Those thinking of getting away should prepare for the occasional volcano and 190km per hour gusts of wind. Be sure to check the the source for more info a pictures.
