The Pain Gun
U.S. Defense researcher Raytheon has developed a new non-lethal crowd control weapon that has been demonstrated to be frighteningly effective. The pain ray, dubbed the ‘silent guardian’, is another device in in a long line of non-lethal crowed control tools.
When turned on, it emits an invisible, focused beam of radiation – similar to the microwaves in a domestic cooker – that are tuned to a precise frequency to stimulate human nerve endings.
Reports indicate that the device is extremely painful, however the pain is gone as soon as ray is switched off or the target is out of the beam. Is such a device any better than a water cannon, taser or tear gas? The article brings up some other interesting questions.
